When you order a custom inflatable, one of the first choices is the material. Most advertising and event inflatables are made in either PVC tarpaulin or coated Oxford fabric. Both work well, but they suit different uses.
Oxford fabric
Oxford is a woven nylon or polyester fabric with a coating on one side. It is mostly used for constant-air inflatables, which stay inflated with a blower that runs during the event.
- Lightweight: easy to carry, fold and set up, which helps for touring events.
- Good print quality: takes bright digital prints well.
- Cost-effective: usually lower in cost than PVC for the same size.
- Less resistant to rough surfaces: best used on grass, carpet or with a ground sheet.
PVC tarpaulin
PVC is a thicker, coated material. It can be used for both constant-air and sealed inflatables, and it is the usual choice for bouncies, water inflatables and long-term outdoor displays.
- Durable: handles rough use, outdoor weather and frequent cleaning.
- Water-resistant: suitable for water and pool inflatables.
- Heavier: takes more effort to transport and set up.
- Higher cost: more expensive than Oxford for the same size.

Which one should you choose?
Choose Oxford if you need a lightweight inflatable for events, roadshows and promotions, such as arches, product replicas or mascots.
Choose PVC if the inflatable will be jumped on, used with water or kept outdoors for long periods, such as bouncies and slides.
